A first-of-its-kind, 200 hour restorative based training for the INTERNAL healing arts
Designed and developed by Rae Helsel (founder of The Rest Movement) and her co-directors Jane Fryer and Dr. Jackie Ang, this inquiry based program is accessible to all levels of students - come as you are, whether your intention is to teach, or deepen your own ability to find emotional and physical equilibrium. This training is for anyone looking for ancient practices towards healing and balance in daily life.
5 ELEMENT THEORY provides the overall map for this YTT.
The goal of Classical Five-Element is to bring the body, mind and spirit into balance with the natural elements that surround us: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal.
These five elements correspond to the five seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Late Summer and Fall.
Each element also corresponds to specific organs, emotions, and aspects of our spirit and personality. Five-Element acupuncture stands apart from Traditional Chinese Medicine in its effectiveness at treating the whole person on all levels simultaneously: Body, Mind and Spirit. And it provides the physical and philosophical foundation of meridians and chi for our physical awareness practices.
Have you fallen out of rhythm with life? We are made up of the same elements we see around us - our inner and outer worlds reflect each other in their cycles, and seasons, and insight. And the connection between them shapes our physical, spiritual, and psychological states of being. This two week immersive journey is designed to help you find an inner alignment of self with nature. A sync with her intuitive rhythms.
This program is a deep dive into some of the foundational aspects of your being - anatomy (the study of the structure of the body) and physiology (the study of the function of the body) including topics from heart rate variability to polyvagal theory to neurobiology. We will be looking at what happens within our body, mind, and systems through the lens of ancient healing practices, and integrated with contemporary scientific insight. You will leave with practical tools and methodologies that can be applied to the way that you find health in mind, body, spirit, and support those around you to find the same.

Rae has been teaching yoga for almost 15 years, and is a mindful restorative yin instructor who incorporates meditation, medical qi gong, and neuroscience into the classes and trainings she leads. She discovered yoga and meditation while living through the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments in college, and she has experienced in the very depths of her cells that this practice can heal, restore, and empower the mind, body, and spirit.
True to her belief in living a life of balance, Rae lends the other hemisphere of her brain to her career in software development with her agency RANA DEV. The yin to that yang is The Rest Movement - her way of inviting others to learn what she has found to be the most restful, restorative, and seasonally rhythmic approach to existing as a human being.
Rae has over 2,000 hours of education and continues to study with her teachers Jane Fryer, Judith Lasater, Sarah Powers, Bernie Clark, Lorie Dechar, Thomas Droge, and Mimi Kuo Deemer.
Her mission is to normalize slowing down in an over-worked and under-rested culture.

Jane has been teaching yoga for 4 decades. Expansion and creative inquiry are hallmarks of her teaching style and personal life. Now, living a more simple life in Nosara, Costa Rica, Jane’s passion has morphed from the seat of the teacher to training and guiding those who are ready to take the same path. And to do so in the wisdom traditions and practices supporting and nourishing internal rhythms: Restorative Rhythms. This training is the culmination of Jane’s curiosity evolving by diving deeper and wider into the traditions that are supportive of classical restorative yoga (which is not an ancient practice per se).
Her teachers throughout life include, Amrit Desai with Kripalu roots; and most recently Rod Stryker, guiding her into the mystery of yoga nidra; and the conscious nuances between the waking, dreaming, and awakened states. Also influenced by John Friend (Anusara Yoga), Douglas Brooks (Rajanaka Tantra), Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield (Mindfulness Meditation). As well as the queen of restorative yoga, Judith Lasater for the past forty years.
Jane’s expertise, coupled with the openness with which she shared her personal experiences, are the gifts she brings to her students. Her understanding of anatomy and the body’s energy systems provide both beginning and seasoned students with a safe environment to explore, heal and integrate the bodymind with the mystical element of Soul, and the pathways to embodied spirit. She believes we are a culture hungry to reconnect with Source, our innate humanity; as this is precisely the process she experienced after situational depression and loss in her twenties. Returning to the still point, the portal to the infinite; embodying that space and possibility with a beginners mind. From Karma to Dharma. From reactivity to spacious awareness. This is Jane’s mission and purpose.
